Class: World History Grade 9
Unit: WWI Assignment: Summative Assessment In this unit students conducted a simulation of WWI. Students were assigned countries and elected presidents and foreign ministers for their countries. Students had objectives that they needed to try to meet to receive full credit. Their objectives are listed in the document on the far left (Top Secret: Germany). There is an interactive map (pictured to the left), and each class day represents one year. Students invade each other and take over territory according to their objectives on the interactive map. This activity is highly engaging and let's students make real-life choices that leaders must make in times of war. |

Class: Geography Grade 9
Unit: Gunnison, Colorado Assignment: Summative Assessment In Geography students learn how the physical geography influences culture around the world. The first place students learn about is right in their backyards, the Gunnison Valley of Colorado. First, students were given research assignments to learn the history and geography of the Gunnison Valley. Then, students connected our valley's culture to history and physical geography. The summative assessment for this unit was to create a physical map of the Gunnison Valley that connects history, geography, and culture. |
Interactive Note Taking
Class: Geography Grade 9
Unit: Middle East Assignment: Formative Assessment For this assignment students took notes on the history of the Middle East through maps. I posted slides in both English and Spanish around the classroom. Students walked around to take notes. Every few slides there was a critical thinking question for students to review what they had written, and think deeper about the content. To review and discuss this material, we played a trivia game the following class period. |

Asia: Final Project
Class: Geography Grade 9
Unit: Asia Assignment: Summative Assessment For our unit in Asia, students were responsible to research one country. I conducted lessons to help guide their research and demonstrate how the physical geography has influenced culture in that part of the world. Students researched elements of their country such as: economy, human-environment interaction, and history. Their final projects were displayed in a museum-style gallery walk were they reflected and learned form one another. |
